Notch was ASTRONOMICALLY WORSE than Microsoft

This may be a controversial thing to say, but Notch would have destroyed, Minecraft if he never sold it. Because while Microsoft might look terrible for, adding things like the greedy marketplace, the forceful migration, and, releasing extremely disappointing updates, Notch would have done even, worse. He would have used his power to add and remove so many things that it, would have damaged the game beyond repair. This means a version of, Minecraft with no players, no updates, and a completely lost identity.Guess how long Notch stayed on Minecraft development for. Was it 7 years? 10, years? No, it was actually 5 years, starting in 2009 and ending in 2014.Except since he gave the lead developer position to Jeb shortly after making the, game, he was only the full owner for half of that time, which is just 2.5, years. So it’s obvious by now that Microsoft has been controlling it for, way longer than Notch did. I mean, it’s pretty obvious that 12 years is bigger.
than 2.5 years. And for these 12 years in counting, Microsoft may have done a, good job at keeping the game alive, but they most certainly have been a terrible, parent company of Mojang. Like even today, Microsoft has shown how greedy, and scummy they are, and how people are still getting falsely mass banned. Heck, anything as small as a tiny Easter egg has to be in multiple business meetings, in order to even be considered for the game, which is why it takes so long to, make an update. But the original guy was kind of the exact opposite of this, mindset. See, when Notch was the main leader in development, every decision, had to be confronted by him, and he would sometimes add things just because, he felt like it. I mean, to name the most relevant example, creepers were, originally glitched pigs, but he kept them in because he felt like it. And now, it’s the most iconic mob in the entire game, maybe besides the sniffer. In, other words, the main hobby that Notch enjoyed was experimenting on games.
That’s why he made Minecraft in the first place, originally being called, Cave Game. He wanted to experiment with cubes and voxels and branch out more, from his previous projects. This is where we have to make an important, distinction. He didn’t like working on games, he liked making games. It’s kind, of like how some people like creating new Minecraft worlds and don’t want to, keep one forever world. But with the situation he was in, Notch didn’t really, have a choice. He now had to make Minecraft his forever game, kind of.Which is the exact opposite of what he wanted. And it didn’t help that Notch, was mostly the only developer that people would complain to. So, given, enough time, especially if Notch never sold Mojang, there were two possible, things that could have happened. Either he could have just killed Minecraft and, pretended it never existed in favor of other projects, or he’d eventually make, so many huge changes that Minecraft simply wouldn’t be itself anymore. Of.
course, he would most likely preserve the original everything is made of, blocks model, but he would have added things that are chaotic and sometimes, extremely annoying to most players. To give a few examples, he would have added, permanently burnt out torches, ghasts spawning near portals, realistic mode, that included mechanics like thirst, and other frustrating things. Notice that, this is the exact opposite from Microsoft in terms of gameplay changes.Because while Notch made too many changes to the game, Microsoft is making, too little changes to it. I mean, if you play Minecraft on version 1.18, then, play another world on version 26.3, the gameplay would largely be the same, maybe besides things like leaf litter and copper armor if you use those.Microsoft is deathly afraid of changing Minecraft too much. Because if they do,they will end up with the 1.9 situation all over again, where they accidentally, split the community into two completely opposing parts, just like what happened.
10 years ago. The solution? Just don’t do anything. You can’t mess up what, isn’t there. Now, both of these models would kill the game eventually. There’s, no denying that theory. The first strategy of changing too many things too, fast would quickly ruin the game, sometimes due to a single feature that, causes the absence of like half of the entire player base depending on how it’s, implemented. But changing too little would also destroy the game by making it, more boring and less interesting due to a lack of new content added. Contrarily, the doing-nothing option is actually safer because a lot of what makes, Minecraft interesting and replayable isn’t what comes from the developers.Instead, it comes from the creativity of the community, which is different from, most other games. Now, this isn’t to say that Microsoft is the sole reason why, we’re getting so little stuff or that they’re just giving us fewer updates, because lots of new features are still huge. It’s not like the game had just.
been desolate ever since 2014, especially with things like the Nether, update. They’ve just been adding stuff at a slower pace, which actually, technically boosts the game’s longevity even more. And yes, I know that you, could present the argument that big updates are good because they did good, things like breathing life into oceans, making caves even bigger, and even, improving all villages, but it is much easier to make an update that’s despised, by the community than one that’s loved by the community, which is part of the, reason why they take so darn long in the first place. Plus, for the Nether, update, Mojang confirmed that working on it gave them some of their most, stressful months. And having an internal balance in the company is one of the, most important factors to the game’s development and keeping it alive. And, this is even more obvious thanks to how Notch acts as a social media person. If, you completely ignore development, Notch would still be a worse owner than.
Microsoft solely because of his controversies, like possibly being, racist and anti-LGBTQ+ though both of those aren’t confirmed. But because of the fact that large numbers of people believe that he’s like, that, his reputation has remained critically damaged. Unlike Notch, big, corporations like Microsoft are largely silent on social media if you ignore, advertisements. They don’t often tweet controversial stuff like it’s okay to be, white. In fact, if they did do something like that, they would probably lose a, ton of their stock in the exact same day, which would be horrible for them, because money. But it’s more understandable for a single person to do, that stuff because it doesn’t have to be approved in a thousand business, meetings. It just has to be typed by one person on one account on one platform, then sent. That’s it. And that’s why Notch said so many controversial things, compared to the companies of Mojang or Microsoft. Because of these.
controversies, some people would boycott all of Notch’s projects, including, Minecraft, simply because they dislike what he stands for, which is a big, reason why Microsoft decided to completely remove all previous mentions, of him from the entire game. Like for example, there was a splash text that, used to say the work of Notch, but they removed it because of the controversies.Notch being the owner and saying controversial stuff would lead to, Minecraft being less successful as a whole, unlike what happens with, Microsoft. Because in most cases, you can’t really criticize silence, because, there’s nothing to criticize, which is exactly what large companies know and, use to their advantage. I’d like to note that this is just the complete opposite, of Roblox, because Roblox, even being a multi-billion-dollar company instead of, a single person, is currently on a streak of terrible decisions that, actively harm their player base in terms of gameplay and other stuff. That.
platform is on track to destroy itself because of this. While Microsoft is, doing so little that yes, the game will probably become less popular in the, future with smaller and smaller updates, but still a Minecraft world remain as, Minecraft, and it won’t change so drastically that it becomes something, that it isn’t, unlike Roblox. To be honest, David Baszucki’s example of a, CEO is similar to what Marcus Persson would have done, uh who by the way is, not. Minus the probably racist tweets. David Baszucki is currently trying to, make Roblox his own platform. Not like doing stuff as the CEO of the company, but by actively forcing hated features toward the community. Think realistic, avatars, AI slop that most billionaires love for some reason, dynamic faces, donation games, and the child safety stuff. Now, I’m not going to say that, Notch would have done all of that, but he likely would have changed the game in, a way that the community would have disliked or hated, more on the hate.
side. I mean, we already saw that happen before the game was even published with, the release of beta 1.8, which added substantial features such as hunger and, sprinting. But, the community back then hated those features, which is why many, people strictly play on beta 1.7.3, the version right before beta 1.8. This, update showed that Notch cared more about his own desires about the game, than the community surrounding it, for the most part. This isn’t to say that, Microsoft is the best owner ever, though. There are probably way better, companies that could handle Mojang way better than Microsoft. But, since, history has already happened, since Notch has already sold the game, we will, never know any of that for sure. But, we can still speculate and theorize. So,that’s what I think would have happened. You’re free to disagree with me and, write a comment about it. Anyway, thanks for watching this UI Team Minecraft, video. Galatians 5:22. And until next time, Undefeatable Army.
